While the world waited in anticipation to new albums from artist such as Blink 182, Man Overboard and even This Time Next Year, the local NorCal punk scene was waiting for their hometown heroes to release their new material as well. The album, “Deathproof” is Heart to Heart’s latest work.
Listeners who like to to listen to new albums from beginning to end will find themselves first listening to the track “Requiem”. Requiem starts off with a palm muted guitar reminiscent to punk bands such as Rise Against. Soon after a deep chugging bass guitar follows. Seconds following the entire band kicks in with riffs that have the same character as that of Title Fight. Also this band has sounds similar to punks bands, do not label them as such. This track exemplifies the uniqueness that is Heart to Heart. The parts that stand out in this song are the dynamic vocals of the frontman which have greatly improved since the last EP “Impressions” and the bass lines. This band actually has a bass player that can actually “play bass”. The modulated bass riffs give more texture to the song.
The track “Recollections” has very “heart on your sleeve” lyrics. The song reflects on the past and moving away from it. The line “This is my own hell” actually gives the the listener remorse for the pain experience. The sampled voice also gives a good theme (listen to find out).
“Lessons” is by far the “poppiest” song the band has written to date. Listeners of Set Your Goals as well of similar artist will definitely enjoy this track. The track has a similar theme to Recollections. The theme is whatever may happen, there is always a reason behind it.
Deathproof is one of the finest works that has come out of California in a while. Heart to Heart blends old punk rock with what today’s world considers punk rock and makes the unique sound that is Heart to Heart. The band is scheduled to play a record release show on October 2nd in San Luis Obispo, California with fellow NorCal band The Story So Far as well as other local bands. If you live in the area, be sure to go to this show. in addition, the album is streaming in it’s entirety at PropertyOfZack (http://propertyofzack.com/post/10689342781/propertyofzack-exclusive-stream-heart-to-heart).
